Marblehead Station

The Storm Trysail Club has 11 "Stations" around the United States.  Since Storm Trysail has no official Clubhouse, these Stations are located in areas where clusters of members can organize and run both sailing and social events for members and their guests.  The Marblehead Station was established in 2014 and has over 50 resident members as well as 20 or more from surrounding towns. Our official watering hole is Maddie's Sail Loft, and a plaque denoting the Marblehead Station's unofficial "clubhouse" hangs over the large mirror to the left of the upstairs bar.  Clarke Smith is the Marblehead Fleet Captain, and his contact information can be found on this website.  We run safety at Sea Seminars each year, as well as the THR.  Ask a member about joining us today!

Rich Wilson aboard Great American II finishing the Vendee Globe.

Marblehead Station member Rich Wilson, best known for being the only American to successfully complete TWO Vendee Globe Around the World Single Handed Races, along with breaking many other Ocean Racing records, has turned his efforts to promoting offshore sailing at the Collegiate level.  Rich in cooperation with the Storm Trysail Foundation, raised over 1 million dollars to purchase 10 Figaro 2 yachts from French Sailors.  These boats have now been delivered to Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Webb Institute, SUNY Maritime, and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.  Funds are also being raised to maintain and upgrade these capable off-shore racing yachts.  The objective of the program is to develop off-shore racing skills of the collegiate sailor and help build interest across America in off-shore sailing.  Look for the Figaro 2's to show up at regatta around the East Coast next summer.  Well done Rich!  We're all proud of your efforts!

The Storm Trysail Foundation and host PLEON YACHT CLUB
run successful Junior Safety at Sea Seminar

In partnership with the Storm Trysail Foundation, and inspired by safety programs for ocean racers, the Junior Safety at Sea Seminars are carefully designed for a teen audience. Hosted by Pleon Yacht Club and supported by the Storm Trysail Club Marblehead Station, this one-day seminar was attended by 12 enthusiastic junior sailors.  Marblehead station members volunteering as instructors included JB Braun, Ian Peebles, Clarke Smith and Peter Fein.  These experienced off-shore sailors trained the junior sailors in the use of safety harnesses, jack lines, life raft deployment, and many other useful skills when sailing in any kind of boat.  The Marblehead Station hopes to build on the success of this seminar next summer with a larger group, drawing from surrounding towns and other junior sailing programs.  For more information contact any member of the Marblehead Station.
